Personal Growth and Social Equity Through College Access, Mental Health, and Newcomer Services

by

This past school year, our Marin team showed up for students in powerful ways. We worked to eliminate barriers to college access, provided essential mental health support, and fostered a sense of community among young Newcomers—children and adolescents who have recently arrived in the country, including immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers —as they adapt to […]

Reflective & Grateful

by

Our justice team recently had the honor of gathering with Cal Wellness and fellow grantee partners for a day dedicated to rest, reflection, and reconnection. The foundation created space for grantees to pause, to step away from the urgency of the work, and remember what grounds and sustains us in community. In a field that […]

Lights on Afterschool Celebration

by

We celebrated the 26th annual Lights On Afterschool with San Francisco’s Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) and partners across the city. This annual event honors the essential role afterschool programs play in young people’s lives — not just academically, but socially, emotionally, and creatively. Afterschool programs offer young people space to explore their […]

Our Theory of Change in Action

by

This year, Huckleberry created a comprehensive Theory of Change through impactful community conversations that showcased what authentic partnership looks like, especially during these critical times. The work is grounded in the social determinants of health across three key areas—health care access and quality, social community, and neighborhood—serving as both a guiding star and a blueprint […]

Despite busy schedules and the daily demands of supporting our community, Huckleberry staff carved out time for something essential: each other. Our annual staff picnic brought together team members from across programs for an afternoon of games, delicious food, laughter, and the kind of connection that fuels our work. This year’s gathering felt especially meaningful. […]

We’re thrilled to share that Huckleberry was selected as a primary beneficiary of CHEER for Life Foundation and CHEER San Francisco for the 2024-2025 program year! This fall, we received a $25,000 grant as part of CHEER’s incredible $50,000 distribution supporting nine local organizations doing vital work across the Bay Area. CHEER for Life focuses […]

Our Theory of Change is based on a human-centered approach that brought together community partners, funders, staff, board members, and, most importantly, young people for strategic discussions.

Our San Francisco gathering took place in a beautiful space generously provided by Futures Without Violence. The panel included Chris Ballard (Executive Director, Coleman Advocates), Tionne (HYP program participant), and Yisroel Quint (Program Officer, Pacific Foundation Services, LLC).

In Marin, we partnered with the Marin Community Foundation, including their Senior Program Director, Shirin Vakharia, as well as Yazuara (HYP program participant), and Judy Schwerin (Wellness Coordinator, San Rafael High School).

The panels focused on deepening our impact while navigating current social and political realities. Our commitment to community-led solutions ensures that young people’s voices are central to discussions about organizational strategy, partnership building, and collective action for social justice.

🌟 In the midst of our busy schedules and the daily demands of supporting our community, the Huckleberry staff made time for something essential: each other! Our annual staff picnic brought together team members from all programs for an afternoon filled with games, delicious food, laughter, and connection 💖

This year felt especially meaningful. In these uncertain times, we’re reaffirming that pausing isn’t just a luxury—it’s a necessity. Joy isn’t separate from our work; it fuels it. By creating space to celebrate each other, we strengthen our resolve to continue showing up for the young people and families we serve with full hearts❤️

Here’s to more moments of play, rest, and togetherness as we move forward. Taking care of each other is how we take care of our community! 🌼✨ #CommunityHealth #HealthEquity #HealthAccess #HuckleberryYouthPrograms
