URGENT: Protect Youth Health & Wellness! Save Our Clinics!

by

A Critical Threat to Our Youth: The Fight for the Cole Street Youth Clinic

For decades, the Cole Street Youth Clinic has been a refuge for thousands of young people—a place where many of the most vulnerable members of our community find safety, healing, and access to vital health care. But now, it is under direct threat.

Despite the life-saving work happening within its walls, the City of San Francisco has announced plans to shutter the clinic this fall. Closing the clinic isn’t just a budget cut; it is a devastating blow to the young people who rely on us for important and affirming health services.

Everyone knows there is a need for timely, trauma-informed, and youth-centered spaces. We continue to elevate these needs in Health Commission hearings, Town Halls, budget meetings, and amongst community partners. We are elevating these voices in every hearing and town hall, but the clock is ticking.

Your Support is Vital

The City has issued a challenge: we must prove the need for our services or lose the clinic forever. We cannot do this alone. Your immediate support is the only way to safeguard this essential resource.

We need you to stand with us now to show the City that our youth matter and that the Cole Street Youth Clinic is not an option, but an absolute necessity. The City says we must prove that there are youth who need our services, so we need your help!

Here’s How You Can Get Involved

💜 Community Members

Write a letter of support to the San Francisco Health Commission, letting them know what these health cuts will mean to you at HealthCommission.DPH@sfdph.org

Or mail a letter to:

Check out the San Francisco Public Press's exceptional story about the state of healthcare for SF young people in crisis, featuring Huckleberry as an integral part of a pioneering system of care. 🏥✨

Here’s an excerpt 👇
“What began during the Summer of Love with the nation's first runaway youth shelter and the Haight-Ashbury Free Clinic evolved into a network of specialized clinics that combined medical care, mental health treatment, sexual health services, and connections to housing and social support under one roof.

Now, that model is being dismantled as San Francisco shifts young patients to larger primary care clinics and expands telehealth services. Supporters say the city [...] may be abandoning a philosophy of care built around meeting vulnerable young people where they are.”

Listen to the full story to learn more about SF's groundbreaking approach to integrated youth healthcare and learn about the city's plan to close the Huckleberry Cole Street Youth Clinic. 🎧

Deep federal and state cuts to Medi-Cal funding are coming for the most vulnerable in our communities. Jackie Miller, Program Coordinator at Huckleberry Youth Health Center, is featured 18 minutes into the story. She calls it as she sees it: “It feels like they see young people as dollar signs.”⚠️
