Huckleberry Youth Programs

At 17, Mia* lost her family home for being transgender. 💔 She was weeks from high school graduation with dreams of becoming a nurse.

No teenager should choose between their identity and a roof over their head, but when Mia faced that impossible choice, she chose herself.

When she walked into Huckleberry Youth Health Center, uncertain what to expect, we were able to show up in partnership 🤝 walking alongside Mia as she built the future she envisioned.

Her case manager developed a plan with her, not for her. Together, they secured long-term housing for LGBTQ+ youth, navigated financial aid for nursing school, connected her to gender-affirming healthcare, and stood beside her at the courthouse when the judge granted her legal name change.

Mia stayed in control of her timeline and her choices.

Today, Mia is thriving. ✨ She’s a full-time nursing student working as a caregiver. She carries her California ID everywhere—not because she has to, but because it finally reflects who she is.

Mia succeeded because of her own determination. But she also succeeded because we had the resources to show up at her most vulnerable moment.

Your support makes stories like Mia’s possible. When you invest in Huckleberry, you invest in young people who deserve a chance to choose themselves—and build futures filled with possibility.

Make your gift today. All donations up to $50,000 will be DOUBLED before the end of the year! 🎁✨
