Huckleberry Awarded $600,000 Grant For Substance Use Prevention Through Elevate Youth California!

by

Huckleberry Youth Programs proudly announces receipt of a $600,000 grant award over the next three years fromย Elevate Youth California, a program of theย California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS). Elevate Youth is a statewide program that prioritizes youth leadership in under-resourced communities and supports organizations, like Huckleberry, working with youth to build their power and leadership skills.

This significant and transformative investment underscores Huckleberryโ€™s commitment to empowering transitional-aged youth (ages 18-24) of color in San Francisco.

Elevate Youthโ€™s generous support will expand our reach and impact, championing youth leadership, civic engagement, and peer-to-peer support. Huckleberry’s funded program called, โ€œCreate-To-Activateโ€, engages participants at theย Huckleberry Youth Health Centerย in producing Zines, which offer evidence-based information onย harm reduction strategies for substance use prevention.

Together, Huckleberry and Elevate Youth will shiftย narratives and policies from punishment to prevention in an effort toย empower youth, enacting positive change for a brighter, healthier tomorrow.

Exploring new horizons! ๐ŸŽ“โœจ

Our Huckleberry ACE Academy rising seniors just returned from an unforgettable tour of universities across Southern California. For many of our first-generation students, these campus visits are vital opportunities to experience college life first-hand, explore different departments, and envision their own futures on campuses that might otherwise seem out of reach. ๐ŸšŒ๐Ÿซ

One of our rising seniors describes it here: "I loved the experience of going to the So. Cal trip. I am very grateful for the opportunity of being able to visit schools in person. I enjoyed hanging with my class and getting to joke around with the ACE Team. Though it was very hot, everyone enjoyed seeing new campuses and looking through the campus stores." ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Yep, Bay Area kids have to acclimate to that So. Cal weather. But we know they can handle it, along with more new experiences and challenges, too. โ˜€๏ธ

We are so proud of the ACE crew for taking this important step toward their future! Through ACE programming, theyโ€™re accessing educational opportunities, breaking down barriers, and realizing their own power and potential. ๐Ÿ’œ
