Our justice team recently had the honor of gathering with Cal Wellness and fellow grantee partners for a day dedicated to rest, reflection, and reconnection. The foundation created space for grantees to pause, to step away from the urgency of the work, and remember what grounds and sustains us in community. In a field that demands so much from each of us, events like this remind us that our well-being isn’t separate from our impact; it’s essential to it.
The day included yoga and sound baths, healing practices, chair massages, live music, guided mindfulness and movement, nourishing food, and perhaps most importantly, space to connect with others who understand the challenges and joys of this work. Cal Wellness’s invitation was simple but powerful: You give so much to your work and your communities. You deserve moments of care, joy, and restoration, too.
We left feeling more centered, supported, and reminded that taking care of ourselves is essential for continuing to take care of our communities. We are grateful for partners like Cal Wellness, who understand that rest is resistance and care is collective.
