Huckleberry Wellness Academy-Marin primarily recruits Latino youth from the San Rafael School District. The students participating in the Huckleberry Wellness Academy-Marin are recruited during the summer between 8th and 9th grade and continue the program through their first year of post-secondary education.
The Huckleberry Wellness Academy-Marin provides training in health education, internship placements in health care settings, academic preparation and tutoring, exposure to health professions, parent support and education, case management, and individual and family counseling. Our program model is strengthened through partnerships with San Rafael City Schools, 10,000 Degrees, Dominican University of California, Marin County School to Career Partnership and Marin Community Foundation.
In the current 2010/2011 school year, the Huckleberry Wellness Academy-Marin is comprised of a total of 80 youth, ranging from 8th to 11th grade.
The College Academy - Through a partnership with the Marin Education Fund and Dominican University, Huckleberry Wellness Acadamy - Marin began a summer program for young people entering high school. In this program known as The College Academy, rising ninth graders participate in writing and youth development classes to prepare them for high school academic success.
